NORDIC FILMMAKERS — FAQ & COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
Membership
Nordic Filmmakers is a low-key professional community for people actively making films across the Nordic region.
By “filmmakers” we mean everyone involved in the craft of making films: directors, producers, cinematographers, editors, sound designers, colorists, gaffers, production designers, screenwriters, composers, VFX artists, production coordinators, casting directors, costume designers, and every other role that makes a project happen. Not just the people in front of the camera. Not just the people behind it. Everyone.
There is no membership fee. The community is open to people actively working in film across the Nordic countries, whether independently, freelance, or within a production company.
By “actively working” we mean you’re currently involved in making films in some capacity. You don’t need credits on a festival circuit or a showreel that meets a certain bar. You need to be making things, or in the process of making things.
We grow slowly and deliberately. Access to the Discord and invitations to local hangouts may be staggered as we scale the community while protecting the quality of the space.
Hangouts
Our hangouts are organized by a dedicated volunteer team across the Nordic region and take place when local communities can gather. They are informal, social, and professional spaces to meet fellow filmmakers face to face.
There is no program, no panels, and no keynotes. Show up, talk to people, and stay open to what comes from it. The second and third time you attend is often when the community begins to feel like yours.
We try to find spaces that can welcome everyone who wants to attend, but capacity may be limited depending on the venue. We’ll share details through our official channels before each event.
Discord
The Discord server is the community’s self-organizing hub. It is not moderated into the ground, but it is expected to remain useful and respectful.
A few principles:
Share work, ask questions, offer help. The community gets better when people contribute, not just consume.
Self-promotion is welcome when it’s relevant and honest. Posting your work or a project you’re hiring for is encouraged. Spamming is not.
Conversations should center on filmmaking and the craft around it. Adjacent topics are fine. Unrelated noise is not.
Talent Spotlight
Our Spotlight series features working professionals from across the Nordic region. Selections are made by the Nordic Filmmakers community team. Submit your work to be considered if we have not already reached out.
Not every application or member will be featured. The series reflects our editorial curiosity at any given time and is not a ranking or endorsement hierarchy.
If you are featured, we will coordinate with you on content and approve nothing without your sign-off.
Conduct
We ask that all interaction within the community, online and in person, remains respectful and professional.
Nordic Filmmakers exists to connect people. That only works if the space feels safe, direct, and free of ego-driven noise. Disagreement is fine. Disrespect is not.
We reserve the right to remove anyone from the community whose behavior undermines the space for others. This includes, but is not limited to, harassment, discrimination, or repeated disregard for the tone of the community.
Ethics & Attribution
Filmmaking builds on what came before. We respect that, and we expect our members to do the same.
If you share work within the community that draws heavily on another creator’s ideas, visual language, or structure, be transparent about it. Credit where credit is due, always.
Disputes between members regarding creative integrity should be handled privately and respectfully. If needed, the Nordic Filmmakers team can help facilitate, but we are not arbiters.
Partnerships & Sponsors
Nordic Filmmakers collaborates with selected tools, platforms, and institutions relevant to filmmakers. Partnerships are explored slowly and only pursued when they offer genuine value to the community.
We do not sell access to the community or share member information with partners without explicit consent.
