Where new voices meet the industry.
We're not here to compete with the established journalistic voices.

From Oslo Filmmakers Hangout at Kulturhuset in february 2026.
What is “nordic — filmmakers”?
When we started Oslo Filmmakers, "we" was "one." An Instagram account meant to promote hangouts in Oslo. One hangout led to the next, and slowly a small community grew around it. At the last one, nearly 90 people showed up. WTF… 😬
That confirmed something was happening.
So few became many. We became a group of people putting energy into building something bigger than ourselves. And now we're launching it: nordicfilmmakers.com, a platform where new voices meet the established filmmaking culture and industry in Norway, but in a low key conversational tone.
Here's the thing. Our thoughts!
Norway is having a moment. People are calling it a golden age. But the work still happens in silos. Closed groups connected by word of mouth. Institutions fund films. Festivals screen them. Industry markets pitch them. The established have the leverage, and we get it.
Name of the game, we are told. And we agree, but there is space for "community filmmaking". Google it, it's a thing! And everyone says they want more new voices. More original work. More perspectives. More diversity in who gets to tell stories. We all agree that new voices matter.
But where do those voices actually get heard before they've made it through the system?
That's the gap. There's no platform that consistently shows them. No place where the community itself speaks, without criticizing the established, but showing its interest, its curiosity, its passion, its work. Where filmmakers at every level get visibility and context, a chance to promote themselves, but also a chance to be part of the conversation.
Where you can read about someone making their first short in Bergen alongside an interview with someone who just premiered at Cannes.
So this platform grew out of a simple idea. What if we had an editorial site that also worked as a community page? Where we curate and create content for you, the reader, in this same low-key, conversational tone. Not competing with the established journalistic voices. A voice that's in closer conversation with you, and that gives you a platform too.
That's what we want to create.
We say Nordic because the focus is on voices from across Norway, outwards. We want our readers to be someone from Tromsø as well as someone in Berlin or the UK, curious about the perspectives and minds in the indie filmmaking in Norway.
What you'll find here
Community voices meeting editorial context. The tone is conversational and intimate, focused on people and their filmmaking. But it's not just an open mic. We curate. We pick what matters, what deserves attention, and what you should know about.
That means spotlights on filmmakers (already familiar from our Instagram), alongside new content you'll only find here.
Reflections and essays written by you, the community. Your experience, your take, your voice.
Curated films you need to watch again, and new ones you need to watch right now.
Conversations with people in the community about what they're making and why.
Interviews with new and established industry people about how they got in and what they're working on.
You bring the stories. We help shape how they're told and where they're seen.
But we're not naive. We start where our impact is right now. Local. Oslo and Bergen. Building from here. Finding new collaborations, new voices, showcasing the people making films in this country to the world.
Be local, think international.
