SPOTLIGHT: Trim Balaj, Actor

SPOTLIGHT: Trim Balaj, Actor

As a part of the Oslo Filmmakers Spotlight series, we want to highlighting voices from the community.

We had a chat with Trim Balaj. He is an Actor with a decade of experience across stage and screen, drawn to characters that carry weight and don’t show all their cards. We talked about playing Hamlet on stage, bringing truth and vulnerability through humor, and why he’s still got unfinished business with the role.

Who are you, and what do you do?

My name is Trim Balaj, and I am an actor working across theatre and film. I’m drawn to characters that don’t reveal themselves easily, roles that carry complexity and tension.

I’m primarily driven by story, with a focus on the human core of each role rather than format or genre. I have over ten years of experience as an actor.

What is the latest project you worked on that you are proud of?

Playing Hamlet on stage is the project I’m most proud of. It was an intense journey from start to finish, both physically and emotionally.

The rehearsal process pushed me in new ways, and I’m proud of where we ended up. I feel far from done with Hamlet, and I hope to return to the role in 2026.

If your work could give the audience one feeling, what would it be?

This was a difficult one, choosing just one feeling. I think it would be truth and vulnerability, often expressed through humor.

I aim to bring honesty to my work, allowing the audience to recognize something human in the character, while also creating a positive and playful energy on set through improvisation and collaboration. I believe humor can create space for honesty, even in darker or more demanding stories.

Who in Oslo should get the spotlight next, and why?

Fredrik Skogsrud. A great actor on both stage and screen, with presence, range, and a strong instinct for storytelling.

We still haven’t worked together, which honestly feels like an oversight. If anyone’s watching, it’s time to fix that and get this combo booked.
